Capsule Geology

The Dave (Slum Gulch) occurrence is located near the Horsefly-Likely Forest Service Road where it crosses Slum Gulch Creek, approximately 2.3 kilometres southwest of Likely.

Regionally the area is underlain by alkali basalt of the Upper Triassic Nicola Group of the central Quesnel Belt. Intruding the basalt are dike-like monzonite syenodiorite stocks. Hydrothermal activity associated with the stock has altered the surrounding volcanics in places with a propylitic mineral assemblage of epidote, chlorite and calcite.

Locally, andesite flows and tuffs with up to 50 per cent epidote, silica, hornblende and magnetite replacement are in contact with a hornblende diorite intrusive. Mineralization consists of limonite-pyrite filled pods and calcite-chalcopyrite filled fractures. In 1981, a rock chip sample (D2) assayed 0.48 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 9582).

Work History

During 1969 through 1971, Ardo Mines completed programs of ground induced polarization and magnetic surveys, soil sampling and diamond drilling on the area as the Pine and Red Rock claims. In 1981, the area was prospected as the Dave claim. The following year a program of geological mapping and a lone diamond drill hole, totalling 25.2 metres, was completed. In 1984 and 1985, Rhamco Resources completed ground magnetic and electromagnetic surveys on the area. During 1986 through 1988, Cedarmine Resources completed programs of rock and soil sampling, geological mapping, ground geophysical surveys and minor drilling on the area as the Dave claim. In 2019 and 2020, KORE Mining Ltd. completed programs of prospecting and geochemical (rock and soil) sampling on the area as part of the South Cariboo property.
